An upcoming documentary called “Sherri Papini: Caught In The Lie” was shown to TMZ. In it, she asks the crowd, “Haven’t you ever lied? In all your years of living, have you ever lied? Then has that lie gone viral and been shown all over the world?”
Sherri wasn’t seen for three weeks in 2016, but she was found on the side of a California highway saying that her kidnappers had let her go.
She said that two Hispanic women held her hostage for weeks, chaining her to a wall and writing the word “Exodus” on her skin with masks over their faces.
Sherri was caught in March 2022… and was later found guilty of one count of mail fraud and one count of making false claims. She was given an 18-month prison term, but she got out before the end of the year.
It looks like Papini is taking back everything she said about the kidnapping being a hoax at her sentencing hearing. In the clip, she says, “It’s so much more complicated than pointing the finger and saying you’re a liar, and I wish more than anything I could have been more truthful.”
ID made the documentary and talked to a lot of people, some of whom know Sherri and some of whom don’t believe what she says. In the movie, a psychologist tries to make sense of what Sherri is saying.
“Sherri Papini: Caught in the Lie” will air on ID over two nights, May 26 and 27, and you’ll also be able to watch it on HBO Max.
