Every artist has an origin story, and M4RX’s started at recess. In the 5th grade in Chicago, he and his friends spent their breaks trading rap battles and freestyles. For most kids it was a game. For M4RX, it was the beginning of something he would spend the rest of his life chasing. Today, the artist (pronounced “Marx”) has a release sitting at #25 on the Amazon Music chart in the United States, and his latest video, “TRAPPED OUT,” has crossed 300,000 views.
Born November 18, 1994, M4RX began rapping before he turned 10. By middle school, he was taking it seriously, sharpening his skills in rap battles and cyphers and carrying a passion he says has been with him his whole life, along with a belief that his music will make an impact on the industry. That belief has been tested over the years. Promoting independent music is rarely easy, and M4RX has been through thick and thin, from nights without sleep after late shows to early-morning college radio interviews. Through it all, he has worked to move his career forward and never backward.
The résumé reflects the effort. M4RX has appeared on television, including FOX’s Empire, and on TheManCow Show, one of Chicago’s best-known local talk shows and radio blogs. He has toured as an opener for major names including Pop Smoke and PnB Rock and has played plenty of local shows along the way. His music has also traveled through the mixtape circuit, with features on DJ-hosted tapes across DatPiff, HotNewHipHop, and LiveMixtapes alongside top artists, including the BET Awards Vol. 2 mixtape in 2015.
Calling M4RX a rapper only tells part of the story. He plays guitar and drums, sings, and dances, and he moves comfortably between rap and R&B. These days he is leaning more into singing and opening up a side of his artistry he has been holding back. His own style blends alternative vibes with rap, and his sound appears to be heading fully toward alternative. Whether he is writing or freestyling over an instrumental, his flow, sound, and delivery stay flexible. His mindset is simple: work, work, work, like a businessman building his own company.
That range comes through in “TRAPPED OUT.” M4RX calls the video “a testament to my creative journey and relentless pursuit of innovation,” and the response backs it up, with more than 300,000 views. The video also shows off another of his strengths. People who know him describe him as lovable, funny, and easy to talk to, and a great actor when he’s in front of a camera. That screen presence, already tested on a major network show, helps the visual connect.
The chart placement followed. 4 MY DAWGZ recently landed at #25 on the Amazon Music chart in the U.S., a sign that an artist who built his audience through live performance, mixtapes, and persistence is reaching listeners well beyond Chicago.
M4RX isn’t treating any of it as a finish line. His message to fans is to follow the journey, join the community, and “let your misf!t out,” an invitation to embrace what makes you different that also fits his own career, built outside the usual lanes. “Let’s redefine what’s possible in the music world together,” he says.
