AggronympH’s *Shivers In My Veins* is a dark, emotionally intense exploration of electronic gothic metal, balancing atmospheric beauty against crushing heaviness. Released in February 2015, the eight-track album shifts among shimmering ambient passages, grinding distorted guitars, thumping percussion, and haunting vocals, creating a sound that is both dramatic and deeply personal. Melancholy runs throughout the record, yet glimpses of warmth and hope repeatedly emerge from the darkness.
The instrumental opener, “The Emptiness Within,” establishes the mood with striking delicacy. Its billowing, airy atmosphere suggests drifting through layers of clouds, while glistening textures and rustling cymbals gradually give way to harder beats and a more forceful rhythmic presence. “Feels Like A Lie” takes a sharper direction, opening with a fluid lightness before buzzing distortion and grinding guitars dominate. Karu’vee Yang Shu’s gentle, despondent vocals rise through the haze, lending particular vulnerability to lyrics about loneliness, emotional uncertainty, and a relationship breaking apart.
“Instincts,” featuring Peter, brings rap into the mix. His barely audible delivery contrasts with the softer female vocals. “Overdose” heightens the emotional intensity, addressing loss, isolation, and the effort to carry on after the death or departure of someone important. The title track is another highlight: its shimmering introduction conceals a rumbling rhythmic force before Shu’s soft voice drifts melancholically above grinding guitars and pounding beats.
“Adhar (Darkness),” featuring Tahrima Islam and Abdallah Bin Haque Ratul, opens softly before surging into powerful guitars, pounding beats, and crashing cymbals. Its Bengali lyrics explore the recovery of buried emotions and the search for a lost sense of self. At the opposite extreme, “Incompleteness” lingers on loneliness and unmet longing, while the closing instrumental, “AggronympH,” winds down with shimmering, reflective piano. Its graceful melody provides a surprisingly tender farewell.
Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Saad Al Sami Arnob at InternalChaos Studio, the album features musicians from China and Bangladesh, giving its collaborative spirit an international dimension. Through its shifting moods, Shivers In My Veins strikes a compelling balance between electronic experimentation, gothic atmosphere, and the raw emotional power of metal.
